Skilled Nominated Visa
Faster than Subclass 189 due to prior state-level eligibility assessment. A case officer may request documents within the first 3 months; if all is satisfactory, a decision may occur at around 19 months.
The Subclass 190 Skilled Nominated Visa is a permanent residency visa for skilled workers who are nominated by an Australian state or territory government. It is points-tested — and state nomination itself adds 5 bonus points to your score — making it an attractive pathway for applicants who may not meet the invitation cut-off for the independent Subclass 189 visa. In return for nomination, you are obliged to live and work in the nominating state or territory for at least 2 years after your visa is granted, though you retain the right to move after fulfilling this commitment.
Occupation must be on the state's nominated occupation list
Score at least 65 points on the points test (nomination adds 5 more)
Be under 45 years of age at the time of invitation
Meet competent English language requirements
Have a positive skills assessment from the relevant authority
Submit an EOI via SkillSelect nominating the specific state/territory
Meet individual state nomination criteria (may include ties to state, job offers, or employment history)
Commit to living and working in the nominating state for 2 years
Use the Department of Home Affairs points calculator to estimate your total score across age, English, work experience, education, and other factors.
Review the state-specific occupation lists; different states nominate different occupations depending on their skill shortages.
Obtain a positive skills assessment from the relevant assessing authority for your nominated occupation.
Complete IELTS, PTE, TOEFL iBT, or OET with the required scores.
Lodge your EOI, nominating your preferred state(s) or territory. You may select multiple states to increase your chances.
Once nominated, the Department of Home Affairs will issue an ITA for the Subclass 190 visa.
Undergo medical examinations with a panel physician and obtain police clearance from all relevant countries.
Submit your complete visa application via ImmiAccount within 60 days of the invitation.
