What is the Visitor Visa (General) (VV / INZ) Visa?
For tourism, visiting family or friends, or attending short-term business meetings. Visitors can apply for a single-entry visa (up to 9 months stay) or a multiple-entry visa (6 months per trip). The visitor visa does not permit paid employment. Applications are lodged online via the INZ portal, and approvals are issued electronically as eVisas.

Step-by-Step Application Process

Determine Eligibility
Check eligibility on the official Immigration New Zealand website at immigration.govt.nz. Confirm you need a Visitor Visa — Indians are not eligible for the NZeTA.

Gather Required Documents
Collect all supporting documents as per the official India-specific checklist (INZ 11223), including passport, financial evidence, travel itinerary, and accommodation proof.

Create an Immigration Online Account
Register at apply.immigration.govt.nz and begin your online application, or visit a VFS Global Visa Application Centre in India.

Complete the Application Form
Fill in all personal, travel, and health details accurately. Declare any criminal history.

Upload Documents and Pay Fees
Upload scanned copies of all required documents. Pay NZD 441 total (NZD 300 application fee + NZD 41 levy + NZD 100 IVL) online.

Attend Biometrics if Required
You may be asked to provide biometric data at a VFS Global centre. INZ will notify you if this is required.

Await Decision
Track your application via your Immigration Online account. INZ will email you when a decision is made. 80% of applications are processed within 3 weeks.

Receive eVisa
If approved, you receive an eVisa by email. Save or print a copy to present at the New Zealand border.

Bank statements for the last 3–6 months (showing sufficient funds)
Evidence of employment or study in India (ties to home country)
Confirmed return or onward flight booking
Proof of accommodation in New Zealand (hotel bookings, or invitation letter from host)
Sponsorship Form INZ 1025 (if sponsored by someone in NZ)
Marriage certificate or birth certificate (if including family members)
Chest X-ray certificate from INZ-approved panel physician (required for stays over 6 months)

Can I work on a New Zealand Visitor Visa?
No. The Visitor Visa does not permit any paid employment. You must apply for an appropriate work visa — such as the AEWV — before starting employment.
