O1 Extraordinary Ability

The O1 visa is for individuals who possess extraordinary ability in the sciences, arts, education, business, or athletics (O1A), or who have demonstrated extraordinary achievement in the motion picture or television industry (O1B). It is not subject to a numerical cap and does not require a lottery.
Individuals at the top of their field — nationally or internationally recognised
Scientists, researchers, artists, athletes, entrepreneurs, or entertainers
Must have a US petitioner (employer or agent)
Evidence of sustained acclaim: awards, media coverage, judging roles, high salary, publications
The applicant must prove extraordinary ability in science, arts, education, business, athletics, or entertainment.
Gather awards, media coverage, contracts, publications, salary proof, and recommendation letters.
A U.S. employer, agent, or organization must agree to sponsor the visa petition.
The sponsor may need a consultation letter from a relevant peer group, union, or industry organization.
The U.S. sponsor completes Form I-129 with all supporting documents for submission.
The sponsor files the petition with USCIS for review and approval.
If approved, USCIS issues Form I-797 approval notice to the sponsor and applicant.
The applicant fills out the DS-160 online nonimmigrant visa application form.
Pay the required O-1 visa processing and application fees before the interview.
Book an appointment at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in your country.
Visit the Visa Application Center for fingerprints and photograph collection.
Answer questions about your achievements, work plans, and sponsorship in the U.S.
If approved, the passport is returned with the O-1 visa stamp.
Enter the U.S. to work temporarily in your field of extraordinary ability.
