Step-by-Step Application Process

Search the Green List

Search immigration.govt.nz for your occupation in the Green List. Confirm your role is Tier 1 and check the specific requirements for your occupation.

Secure Green List Tier 1 Job

Obtain a job offer or verify your current employment is in a Tier 1 Green List role with an AEWV-accredited employer, paying the required wage.

Prepare Documents

Gather evidence of employment, qualifications, occupational registration, English language ability, and health and character documents. Check if an International Qualification Assessment (IQA) is needed for overseas qualifications.

Apply Online

Apply through Immigration Online at apply.immigration.govt.nz. There is no EOI stage — you apply directly for the resident visa.

Pay Fees

Pay NZD 6,450 total (NZD 2,880 + NZD 3,570) online.

INZ Assessment

INZ assesses your application. Processing typically takes 35–129 working days. You will be contacted if additional documents are needed.

Receive Resident Visa

If approved, you receive a NZ Resident Visa. After holding it for 2 consecutive years, you can apply for a Permanent Resident Visa with indefinite travel rights.
