• Roles on the Red List, or at skill level 4 or 5, aren't eligible for this pathway.

2. Trades and Technician Pathway (New)

You'll need:

• A job in an eligible trade or technician occupation, paid at least the SMC wage threshold
• A Level 4 trades qualification (NZQCF Level 4 or higher, or an equivalent overseas qualification) - a key requirement for NZ PR under this pathway
• 2.5 years of post-qualification work experience in a skill level 1–3 role
• A further 1.5 years of skilled work experience in New Zealand, paid at least the wage threshold

On qualifications:

A New Zealand qualification needs at least 120 NZQCF credits, or a combination of smaller qualifications adding up to 120 credits. Credits gained through recognition of prior learning don't count.

An overseas qualification simply needs to be Level 4 or higher - no credit requirement - but you'll need an International Qualification Assessment (IQA) from NZQA before applying.

As with the previous pathway, self-employment isn't accepted as qualifying experience here.

How Old Can Your Work Experience Be?

Both new pathways set a time limit on your experience:

• Relevant experience must have been gained within the last 10 years before you apply.
• Skilled experience must fall within a window twice the length of the experience required. For example, if you need 2 years, it must have happened within the last 4 years.

• You can perform the work of a Qualified Statutory Accountant in New Zealand, and

Longer Validity for English Test Results

If you hold an eligible occupational registration, your English test validity with INZ now extends to 5 years instead of 2. This extension also applies to your partner's test results if they're included in your application and hold an eligible registration.
